Racing to Raise the Walls

Sup?

Sup? Raising the walls

An EPIC one day YOUTH EVENT on OCTOBER 16, 2010 with live music, mad competitions, saucy carpenter duds contest, mucho chow and more!!! All to help one of the most visible and vulnerable cities in the world right now ~ Juarez, Mexico. The goal: To build 30 homes for those living one step beyond homelessness. Imagine the sight from Hwy C-470 as 1,000 young people, from across the Front Range, raise walls of hope together!

‘Cause?

Sup? Raising the walls

You have seen it in the media every day. The city of Juarez, Mexico is a battlefield caught up in the worst drug cartel war ever. The media reports 5,700 murders since 2008, a population loss of over 100,000 and 40% of the businesses have closed.  Unfortunately, the “least of these” continue to suffer the most. The faces behind the fear have become an isolated and forgotten people. Survival is in unstable communities of “pallet” houses (cardboard and shipping pallet shelters) put up on vacant land in the outlying colonials. The experience of hopelessness, hunger and fear are tragic consequences of the drug war.  This is an unparalleled opportunity to help bear the burden of those whose needs are so great.

How? With all that and a bag of chips:

Sup? Raising the walls

In just 3.5 hours 30 kids can build a home (if your group is smaller than 30 we can connect you with a partner group to make up a complete building and funding unit). The same 30 or more ask 6 folks for $50 bucks or 12 people for $25 bucks – and you’ve paid for a home for a family in desperate need.  Your house is then transported to Juarez, reassembled, finished and presented to a family your team will get to know personally through pictures and letters. Healthy communities are anchored by homes that provide people with a warm, safe place to live and sleep. You can help raise the walls of hope, of renewal, and of faith.
You can help transform lives and transform communities.

Why it's a no brainer?

Sup? Raising the walls

Intentional Timing: Serious “oomph” event to kick off a Fall youth program
Serious Outcome: A gift (a home) that lasts a lifetime and blesses generations to come
Straight-Up Connection: Invite public school friends – kids could get credit for community service
Fellowship - Keepin’ it Real: Kids racing to raise the walls with brothers and sisters from across the Front Range
Sweet Side Bars: Competitions, prizes, concert stage, live music, chow and much more…

Is this legit?

Sup? Raising the wallsMissions Ministries is a catalyst and facilitator, but this “thing” belongs to the Front Range youth community and their leaders. Bandimere Speedway is providing the facilities. K-LOVE is providing on-air support and will be there on the 16th. Men's organizations are providing onsite carpenter coaches. Professional event planners are donating their time and experience. Denver Truckers are moving the houses on down the line to Juarez. And, MORE to come!

Missions Ministries, huh?

Missions Ministries has been taking 1,000 people to Juarez annually on short term missions for many years. The teams have built more than 700 homes, schools, church buildings, clinics, libraries, parks, soccer fields, a youth community center, an orphanage and a drug rehabilitation center in the colonias of Juarez, creating the infrastructure for transformed communities. Today, however, many ministries have ceased operations in Juarez. But, Missions Ministries' teams continue to go and serve although with 75% fewer teams. Because of this, "Raising the Walls" has been created – building homes here and sending them there.
